Perpignan have earned promotion to the Top 14. The Catalans won the Pro D2 Final today, downing Grenoble 38-13. In doing so Perpignan are back into France’s elite after four years of playing in the second division.
The Catalans are seven time French champions. They won their titles in 1914, 1921, 1925, 1938, 1944, 1955 and 2009. Involved in the most recent triumph was Rimas Álvarez Kairelis, a Puma from 1999-2009.
Former Pumas hooker Martín García Veiga joined as a medical joker in March. The club also has Canadian flanker Quentin James in their academy, son of former Canada and Perpignan star Mike James.
The 2018-2019 Top 14 season will see Perpignan replacing Brive. Either Grenoble or Oyonnax be claim the last remaining spot. They are to meet in the promotion – relegation fixture on Saturday May 12. Grenoble will have e home advantage as the match will take place at the Stade des Alpes.
