Americas Rankings – May 06 2018

International competition this weekend saw three matches played involving Americas test teams. These three fixtures were the opening round of the Sudamericano 6 Naciones A. Despite there being three games only one counted towards rankings points. The May 06 2018 Americas Rankings have been updated accordingly.

Brazil’s 28-12 home win over Chile was the largest ever record by Os Tupis over Los Cóndores. With the win coming by a margin greater than 14 points it sees the Brazilians claiming maximum points. Their 0.91 gain sees them climbing in the rankings while Chile fall.

Prior to the match Brazil had 55.91 points while Chile had 54.94. The updated Americas Rankings see Brazil rising to 56.81 points and Chile falling to 54.04. In the World Rankings this means Los Cóndores are now 31st in the world, an all-time low for Chile since rankings began in 2003.

The Argentina XV overwhelmed Paraguay, winning 54-3 in Asunción. The results has no influence on the rankings due to the Argentina XV being the national second of XV rather than the test side. In order for ranking to factor in it must be Los Pumas.

For the same reason neither Colombia nor Uruguay have seen changes to their rankings. It was not Los Teros playing against Colombia, but instead the Uruguay XV. Next weekend this will be different for Colombia as they face Paraguay in Asunción.

The Americas Rankings will be updated again next Sunday. They will take into account the Sudamericano 6 Naciones A match in Asunción Barbados vs Jamaica and Guadeloupe vs Curaçao. For Guadeloupe it will be their first match since the Americas Rankings began.

Costa Rica continues to be ranked on 32.16 points. This is the case despite the country having gained World Rugby membership in November 2017. Upon gaining World Rugby membership unions enter the World Rankings and do so with a 30.00 ranking.
