Super League returns to Eastern Canada

Almost a decade after the demise of the Rugby Canada Super League, a new initiative in Eastern Canada will see a similar competition begin this spring including six teams from Ontario to Newfoundland.

The Eastern Canadian Super League will feature two divisions – Central and Atlantic – with three teams each that will play in a round-robin home-and-away format before traveling to Montreal for the Finals on the weekend of July 13.

Comprising the Atlantic Division are the senior men’s provincial sides of Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. In the Central Division it will be the Quebec provincial side along with an Eastern Ontario select side and the Arrows Academy, a development side run by the Ontario Arrows.

The aim of the program is to provide both a stepping stone from club to regional level, and also to act as a primary selection vehicle for the Canadian Rugby Championship‘s Atlantic Rock team. It will also provide increased opportunities for players to impress the senior Arrows selectors ahead of the CRC.

Matches will begin in Saturday, May 12, in the Central Division with the Atlantic Division kicking off a week later. The CRC kicks off two weeks following the ECSL Finals weekend.
