Ormaechea returns to Mont-de-Marsan

Uruguayan scrumhalf Agustín Ormaechea will make his return to Mont-de-Marsan official on Wednesday. The 2015 World Cup starter left the Pro D2 club at the end of the 2016-17 season to join Strasbourg in Fédérale 1 but after losing his status as first choice with Los Teros to youngster Santiago Arata he will head back to Stade Montois with an eye on regaining his No9 jersey ahead of the 2019 World Cup.

The 27-year-old will return to Uruguay to play in the World Rugby Nations Cup before re-joining his old club in France. Ormaechea won the most recent of his 38 caps for Uruguay in the World Cup Qualifying series against Canada earlier this year. He notably replaced the injured Arata early in the second match and would go on to play a key role in the famous victory at the Estadio Charrúa.

Before his sojourn with Strasbourg, Ormaechea had spent four seasons with Mont-de-Marsan playing more than 80 games, more than half of them in a starting role. He joins Argentine props Carlos Muzzio and Jerónimo Negrotto at the club with another South America native, Italy lock Leandro Cedaro, eyeing his own return to the club after seeing little action this season with Top 14 club Agen.
