Americas Rankings – April 29 2018

International competition in the Americas returned this weekend. With it the Americas Rankings have been updated. The Americas Rankings – April 29 2018 have include the result of the second match of the Rugby Americas North (RAN) Men’s 15’s competition.

The tournament runs from April through July. Involved are nine competitors, eight of which are RAN members with the USA South Panthers being the ninth. The tournament is structured according to three Tiers – Championship, Cup and Trophy.

Game one was Curaçao at home against the Dominican Republic two weeks ago. The RAN Trophy fixture saw the visitors completing a 46-17 victory at Kaya Mafalda Salsbach.

This weekend’s match was a RAN Cup match with Barbados at home against Jamaica. The Crocs powered to a 50-14 victory, doing so despite leading by 15-14 at halftime.

Barbados entered with 36.48 points while Jamaica did so with 38.76. In winning on the road by over 15 points Jamaica gain the maximum. The updated rankings see Barbados dropping one spot below Peru to now have 35.41 points.

For Jamaica the win gives them a new ranking of 39.83 points. It is insufficient to see them moving up in the Americas Rankings though in the World Rankings they jump five places from 69th to 64th position. Barbados fall below Peru and India to now be 82nd in the world.

The Americas Rankings will be updated again next Sunday. They will take into account the opening round of the Sudamericano 6 Naciones A. There will, however be no further RAN matches until May 12.

Costa Rica continues to be ranked on 32.16 points. This is the case despite the country having gained World Rugby membership in November 2017. Upon gaining World Rugby membership unions enter the World Rankings and do so with a 30.00 ranking.
