Javier Rojas signs for Cornish Pirates

The globetrotting of Javier Rojas continues. Having spent the last two seasons in France and Italy the Argentine dual-international will now pack his bags for England. Rojas has signed a one year contract with the Cornish Pirates of the RFU Championship. He is effectively a like-for-like replacement for outgoing Nicolás de Battista, who will move in the opposite direction to play for Zebre in the Guinness Pro Championship next season.

Short in stature but solidly built and highly skilled, Rojas made a name for himself playing for the Pampas XV in the Vodacom Cup. He won five caps for the Pumas between 2012-2014 including a replacement appearance against Italy in 2013. He has also been a regular for the Pumas 7s side, appearing in 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens and also the 2016 Olympic Games.

Rojas is set to fill the inside centre position that de Battista occupied this season. The 27-year-old can also cover at flyhalf and is a capable goal kicker. He joins Pirates from Viadana in the Italian Eccellenza who he joined in October of last year.
