Uruguay have officially qualified for the World Rugby u20 Trophy. They did so by winning the South America u20’s in Paraguay this past week. Uruguay’s undefeated campaign included wins over Colombia, Paraguay and Chile.
Unlike previous editions of South American u20’s the 2018 competition featured six countries. The evolving face of international competition in the region means there are more rugby events for all to participate in.
Uruguay qualified for the World Rugby u20 Trophy on Saturday. Mario Lamé’s team did so with their win over Chile. The victory was clinical with Los Teritos scoring their first points after four minutes.Nine minutes in saw the opening try with captain Santiago Civetta touching down.
Chile was unable to hold off Uruguay. This saw additional scores coming, notably with Manuel Ardao being a stand-out performer. Uruguay’s control over the game saw them leading 31-0 before the Chileans were able to trouble the scorers.
The final score was 41-7 and means Uruguay will compete as the South American representative at the World Rugby u20’s Trophy this year in Romania. The competition will feature eight competitors. So far Fiji, Hong Kong, and Samoa have qualified.
