Americas Rankings – April 15 2018

The Americas Rankings return with the April 15 2018 edition. The rankings have been updated following the opening match of the 2018 Rugby Americas North (RAN) Men’s 15’s competition.

The tournament runs from April through July. Involved are nine competitors, eight of which are RAN members with the USA South Panthers being the ninth. The tournament is structured according to three Tiers – Championship, Cup and Trophy.

Curaçao played host to the Dominican Republic in Saturday in the first match of the year. It was a RAN Trophy fixture and saw the visitors completing a 46-17 victory at Kaya Mafalda Salsbach.

The Dominican Republic entered the match with 29.12 points and in 36th place in the Americas Rankings. Curaçao went into the game ranked 38th, ahead only of El Salvador, with 27.08 rankings points.

The updated Americas Rankings see Curaçao falling to bottom spot with 25.44 points. The Dominican Republic’s ranking improves to 30.76 points taking the country up to 24th position. This corresponds into a massive twelve place rise for the Dominican Republic.

The next RAN fixture is to be on April 28. Barbados will have home advantage against Jamaica. The Americas Rankings will be upgraded on April 29.

Costa Rica continues to be ranked on 32.16 points. This is the case despite the country having gained World Rugby membership in November 2017. Upon gaining World Rugby membership unions enter the World Rankings and do so with a 30.00 ranking.
