Round two of the 2018 South American u20’s took place today. Taking to the field in Asunción, Paraguay were six teams, two of whom backed-up from their wins in round one to win again for a second time.
The first match of the day saw northern South American countries Colombia and Venezuela facing-off. Neither side had a memorable match in round one. Colombia fell to a 99-5 defeat against Uruguay while Venezuela were hammered 119-0 by Chile.
Today’s fixture saw Colombia bouncing back smartly. An impressive 45-5 win gives the Colombians good footing going into the final round. While Venezuela played notably better rugby the result was a heavy and comprehensive defeat.
Brazil’s late defeat against Paraguay in round one was mentally tough for os Curumins. A chance at getting a win against Chile was the offering in round two. Given the success of Brazil against Chile at senior level their 30-3 defeat today is an indication of the gulf between the respective junior programs.
Chile’s impressive performance was mirrored in the final match by Los Teritos. A comfortable 38-12 win over hosts Paraguay ensured Uruguay progress easily into the final round. While Uruguay are playing well Chile is yet to concede a try in the tournament.
