Cubelli Boost for Argentina XV

A 26-man Argentina XV roster has been named for upcoming international activities. The squad is boosted by the presence of Tomás Cubelli, a player sidelined through injury since September.

The Argentina XV will train together in Buenos Aires in a three day camp next week. The training is to prepare the team for the South American A Championship which takes place next month. The revolutionary new format has seen the creation of the Sudaméricao 6 Naciones A, or South American 6 Nations A Championship.

Cubelli and prop Felipe Arregui join a roster otherwise predominantly made up from players who featured in the 2018 Americas Rugby Championship (ARC). Notable players include Rodrigo Bruni, Francisco Gorrisen, Ignacio Larrague, Juan Cruz Mallía, and Mariano Romanini and Santiago Resino.

There are, however, players given fresh opportunities. La Tabada second-rower Federico Gutiérrez is to have his first chance to play for Argentina’s ‘A’ side. Meanwhile the highly promising Nicolás Cantarutti is back in the mix with there being no place for Juan Cruz González.

Luca Magnosco and Cubelli are there scrum-half options. Meanwhile Sebastián Cancelliere continues to be a reserve wing option for Los Jaguares with Martín Landajo providing back-up to Gonzalo Bertrnaou for the 9 shirt. Felipe Ezcurra is notably absent from both Los Jaguares and the Argentina XV.

The Argentina XV will open their Sudamericano 6 Naciones A campaign away to Paraguay. The May 05 fixture will be followed a home match against Brazil and an away match against the Uruguay XV.
