Pro D2 – Week 29 Preview

The penultimate rounds of the French second division is here. Many teams are playing for the right to earn a place in the Top 14 next season. Others are fighting for their survival or simply planning for next season and looking to be more competitive.

The Pro D2 has been an important competition for players from the Americas over the years. This is true both in the past and the present. Week 29 of the season is no exception. Below is a preview detailing the involvement of players from the Americas.

Opening Week 29 will be Mont de Marsan against Perpignan. The home side have named Argentine prop Jerónimo Negrotto among their replacements. Starting at hooker for Perpignan will be former Puma and the teams new recruit, Martín García Veiga.

On Friday Leandro Mario Assi is to feature for Biarritz. The Argentine prop will be a replacement for Gonzalo Quesada’s team who are in search of a win away to Massy.

Biarritz’s Basque rivals Bayonne are at home to Colomiers. They go into the match with former Pumas Martín Bustos Moyano starting at fullback and Juan Pablo Orlandi as a replacement prop. Chilean  forward Pablo Huete starts in the second-row for Bayonne while Colomiers will have Sebastián Poet among their replacements.

Looking to return to the USA Eagles, Eric Fry will have a further claim for Vannes. He starts at Loose Head against Narbonne. Joining him in the scrum is Javier Lagioiosa who will please second-row. Starting for Narbonne will be David Tameilau at no 8 and Segundo Tuculet on the wing.

In Central France Nevers are at home against Charante. Named on the bench for the home side is Conor Trainor. The Canadian will cover the mid-field and wing from the bench. He is expected to return for his country in the upcoming June Internationals.

Featuring off the bench for Carcassonne will be Juan Cappiello. He is to do so in a home match against Béziers. When he arrived, as a medical joker, the club needed points to escape the relegation zone. The task has been completed. Bezíers, meanwhile, need a win to remain in the hunt for an appearance in the play-off’s.

Week 29 concludes on Sunday. The one fixture sees second from top hosting second from bottom. The third division bound Dax need a strong performance fro come away with points against Montauban. Line-up’s for the fixture will be announced on Saturday afternoon.
