Big Names on Uruguayan Roster for Hong Kong

Big names have been included on the Uruguayan roster for Hong Kong. Los Teros 7’s are to play in the upcoming Hong Kong Sevens, the biggest annual 7’s competition in the world.

Star scrum-half Santiago Arata has been named on the roster. Also included are Federico Favaro and Ignacio García, both of whom are returnees.

Santiago Arata was named in the Team of the Tournament for the recent Americas Rugby Championship (ARC). He was highly impressive in the opener away to Canada in Vancouver and has been, arguably, Uruguay’s best newcomer since RWC 2015.

Federico Favaro had a quiet ARC with other players used as the wingers for the competition. Yet in Uruguay’s prior assignment, Favaro was instrumental in Los Teros’ success. Playing in Africa Favaro contributed heavily to the series win over Namibia in November.

Another player to have been in the fold for the senior men’s side is Gonzalo Soto Mera. He played twice in this year’s ARC and also toured Namibia.

Uruguay will play in the qualifying tournament of the Hong Kong Sevens. This year’s edition sees rugby being played from April 06-08.

Uruguay have been drawn in Pool G. Los Teros 7’s are up against the Cook Islands, Ireland, and Jamaica.
