Chile name u20 squad for South American Championship

Chile have confirmed a list of 26 players to compete in the u20 South American Championships, to be hosted by Paraguay beginning on April 8 until April 14. The team was selected after a final selection match against men’s club PWCC. They depart for Asunción on April 6.

Named in the squad are five players who took part in the 2017 World Rugby u20 Trophy tournament, including two who have since made their senior test debut. Flyhalf Santiago Videla was part of the November tour while both he and flanker Nicolás Garafulic played for the senior Cóndores in the Americas Rugby Championship.

Scrumhalf Hermes Didier was also named in the original extended ARC training squad but did not make a match appearance.

Other returnees from the u20 Trophy are prop Marcelo Huerta, goal-kicking fullback Tomás Salas, and the only overseas-based player in Javier Meneses. A lock or loose forward, Meneses has moved to France to play for RC Strasbourg in Fédérale 1.
