An Argentine referee has been appointed for the Crusaders vs Bulls match this weekend. Federico Anselmi will control the match in Christchurch, a prime opportunity for him to display his attributes in a match between two Super Rugby giants.
Both the Crusaders and Bulls are multiple time Super Rugby champions. The Crusaders are the most successful team in the history of the competition. Since the Super 12 began in 1996 the Crusaders have won eight titles. The Bulls have three, making them joint second best with the Blues.
The Bulls are coached by former New Zealand and USA Head Coach John Mitchell. He left his position in USA Rugby following the Eagles’ qualification for RWC 2019.
The opportunity to referee such a match is crucial to the development of Anselmi. He is the leading official in the Americas and is the best placed to referee matches at RWC 2019. In order to be considered he needs high profile matches like that of the Crusaders vs Bulls and Tier 1 test matches.
In Buenos Aires Los Jaguares will play this weekend. They are to face the Lions, doing so with New Zealanders Jamie Nutbrown as the referee.
Nutbrown is a former Super Rugby player himself. He played for both he Crusaders and the Chiefs. Meanwhile this weekend will see the Tyler Ardron earning his first start in Super Rugby He will play in the second-row for the Chiefs against the Sunwolves.
