Finlay impresses for Ireland Club XV

Former Canada u20 hooker Paddy Finlay made a strong impression for the Ireland Club XV on Friday evening. The 22-year-old came off the bench to score two tries in the Dalriada Cup match against their Scottish counterparts, ultimately won 35-26 by the Scots at Netherdale.

It’s not the first time he has played for an Ireland select side. Finlay has also represented Ireland Universities and has previously seen action with Ulster u20s and the Leinster senior ‘A’ side. He has been a starter for AIL Division 1 side Trinity College in recent years, and recently completed his studies in computer engineering at the school.

Finlay represented Canada at the 2015 World Rugby u20 Trophy competition and was a standout with his mobility. Irish by birth, he qualifies via a Canadian parent. With no hookers under the age of 30 in the senior Canadian squad during the Americas Rugby Championship, Finlay seems an ideal candidate should Kingsley Jones be able to convince him to wear the maple leaf once again.
