Dreadful Jaguares Fall At Home to Reds

A dreadful Jaguares performance saw the Argentine side falling at home to the Reds this evening. The 18-7 defeat was the fourth of the season for Los Jaguares, leaving their win last week over the Waratahs as their only victory thus far in 2018.

Against the Waratahs Los Jaguares played impressive rugby. This was not replicated in the slightest against the Reds. Dreadful execution from Los Jaguares’ backs saw tries failed to be scored while the Reds defense was able to get that better of Mario Ledesma’s forwards.

As poor of a game as they produced the match did start well for Los Jaguares. Following a 4th minute penalty from James Tuttle, the Argentine side scored the games opening try. The score would be their only one of the match.

Rookie Jaguar Bautista Delguy combined with veteran utility back Santiago González Iglesias to score from a set-move. Delguy would get an inside ball from González Iglesias and dive over untouched. Nicolás Sánchez added the extras to give Los Jaguares a 7-3 lead.

Rather than seize the opportunity to complete win number two the wheels fell off from Los Jaguares. Not only were they guilty of making poor decisions when in possession but they were simply lackluster.

The Reds, in contrast, would win the battles though patience. Their first try came from an attacking line-out. Crossing was Brandon Paenga-Amosa, doing so from a rolling-maul. Combined with a second penalty from Tuttle, this time from a scrum, the Reds had an 11-7 lead at half time.

It could have been different at half time though. Three try scoring opportunities were fumbled by Los Jaguares. In the third of these González Iglesias lost the ball while over the line.

46 minutes into the game and the Reds extended their lead, doing so with a superb try. From inside their own half clean ball from a line-out saw Caleb Timu making a clean break. Centers Samu Kerevi and Chris Feauai-Sautia were in support before Filipo Daugunu received a pass and bounced off Delguy to score.

In the 60th minute replacement Juan Martín Hernández and captain Pablo Matera both scored. Referee Paul Williams missed the grounding of the first and sent the second to the TMO. Human error miraculously saw no try given.

With time up Los Jaguares had once final opportunity. Deep in the Reds 22 Sebastián Cancelliere looked to cut inside only to slip while being tackled. With no forwards in support he was penalized for holding on. With it the game concluded.

Next Saturday Los Jaguares will play again in Buenos Aires. They are to face South Africa’s best team, the Lions. The teams have already met once this season with the Lions cruising to a comprehensive victory in Johannesburg.
