Ontario Arrows to play at York Lions Stadium

The Ontario Arrows have revealed their home base for the 2018 season. Canada’s newest high performance team will play two home games this spring at York Lions Stadium, located on the campus of York University in Toronto. The University will also provide training facilities with the neighboring Alumni Stadium used for practice purposes.

Arrows Manager Mark Winokur says the arrangement is a perfect fit. “We are very excited to begin this new partnership with York University. To be able to put our players and fans in such a top-class environment is a massive step forward for our club. York Lions Stadium is a perfect high-performance facility for our athletes and will provide a great game day experience for our fans.”

Initially constructed to host athletics in the 2015 PanAm Games, the stadium features a grass field surrounded by a large IAAF-class running track. Its capacity is 3,700 and the facility offers a complete list of modern amenities. In 2017 the stadium was one of two Canadian winners of the American Sports Builders Association awards for excellence in design and construction.

The current agreement is for the 2018 season but the stadium could become a longer-term home for the team as they eye potential inclusion in Major League Rugby. Rugby United New York will be the first visitors hosted by the Arrows at their new home on Saturday, April 14. The Boston Mystics will be the second home opponents on Saturday, May 5. Both matches will kick off at 4:30pm local time.
