The Seattle Seawolves have added punch to their Major League Rugby backline in the form of Canadian international Mozac Samson. The 32-year-old notably played a vital role in the victorious 2015 Canadian Rugby Championship campaign with the Prairie Wolf Pack. After leading the competition in scoring he was considered unlucky by many to be overlooked for World Cup selection but earned his first call-up to the Canadian national side during the 2016 Americas Rugby Championship.
A native of Fiji, Samson moved to Canada shortly after completing high school and has been a standout midfielder at club and provincial level for more than a decade. His powerful running and offloading game make him a formidable opponent in the outside center channel. The Calgary Saints stalwart won the most recent of his four test caps against Russia in June 2016.
The addition of Samson makes it seven Canadian players among Seattle’s ranks. Ray Barkwill, Phil Mack, and Brock Staller each participated in the 2018 ARC as did Cam Polson who made his international debut. George Barton could find himself next to Samson in the Seawolves midfield and Canada u20 flanker Nakai Penny is part of an impressive group of loose forwards.
