Final Squads for Vancouver Sevens

The final rosters for the Vancouver Sevens have been declared. Another weekend featuring some of the world’s biggest names looms though there are a few stars who did not survive Las Vegas.

New Zealand have suffered a blow with skipper Tim Mikkelson and Vilimoni Koroi ruled out, but fortunately they have loads of talent available to act as replacements. In comes Kurt Baker to play in his 30th HSBC Sevens Series tournament with lanky speedster Luke Masirewa also joining the team.

Fiji, South Africa, and France have also lost Olympians. Jasa Veremalua drops out of the Fijian side with newcomer Uluiyata Batinisavu called in his place. Werner Kok is a big loss for the Blitzbokke, with Marco Labuschagne joining the team as 13th man and Ruhan Nel moving up to the main squad. France will do without Stephen Parez and Paul Bonnefond, the former a Rio competitor. Their replacements are Johan Demai-Hamecher and Pierre Popelin.

James Fleming and Joe Nayacavou miss out for Scotland. Top prospect Ally Miller arrives to fill in as the team will carry only 12 men. England have also lost a pair of regulars in Mike Ellery and Tom Bowen, but have recalled the experienced Charlie Hayter and youngster Ryan Olowofela in their place.

Wales will do without Owen Jenkins and Will Talbot Davies, replaced by Chay Smith and Lloyd Evans. Samoa arrive without ace finisher Tom Iosefo, whose spot is taken by Silao Nonu. The USA have made one change, calling up Nick Boyer in place of Joe Schroeder. Argentina will hand Tomás Passaro a debut after he acted as 13th man in Vegas.

EDIT: Last minute changes for Canada see Lucas Hammond and Matt Mullins called in. Andrew Coe and Luke Bradley sit out and Luke McCloskey is now the 13th man.

The two-day tournament kicks off at 9:30am local time, 12:30 Eastern on Saturday. A complete fixture list for Day One can be seen here.

Canadian fans can watch live on the CBC Sports website. NBC Sports will broadcast in the USA, and ESPN in South America. World Rugby will provide a live stream for those based outside the Americas.
