Americas Rankings – March 04 2018

The Americas Rugby Championship has come and gone for 2018. The final round of the competition saw changes taking place in the Americas Rankings. The updated rankings as of March 04 2018 see Uruguay’s lead over the USA in the rankings ended, thereby restricted to seven days.

Uruguay’s heavy home 61-19 defeat at the hands of the USA sees the countries trading places in the Americas Rankings. The USA has gained a massive 1.94 points climb with Uruguay losing the same amount.

Combined with results from RWC 2019 qualifiers in Europe the USA’s win sees the Eagles climbing from 18th to 15th in the world rankings. Uruguay, meanwhile, fall one spot from 17th to 18th. Between the USA and Uruguay sit Samoa and Romania.

Canada’s 33-17 downing of Chile does not see the North Americans rising in the rankings but it does see Chile falling. Los Cóndores have fallen from 5th to 6th in the Americas and 26th to 29th in the World Rankings.

Brazil’s 28-8 loss against the Argentina XV sees no change to Brazil’s ranking whatsoever. This is based on the Argentina XV not being Los Pumas. Only matches involving the official test side count towards Americas Rankings and World Rankings.

Costa Rica continues to be ranked on 32.16 points. This is the case despite the country having gained World Rugby membership in November 2017. Upon gaining World Rugby membership unions enter the World Rankings and do so with a 30.00 ranking.
