Four more years for MacGinty with Sale

AJ MacGinty has secured his professional career for the foreseeable future. Sale Sharks on Wednesday confirmed that the US Eagles star has signed a four-year contract extension that will carry him through the 2021-2022 season. It follows yesterday’s announcement that England winger Denny Solomona would be staying at the club for the same length of time.

The news will come as a great relief to Sale fans who have watched MacGinty develop into a high quality flyhalf after a rocky start to his Sharks career. He initially signed on for two years after leading Connacht to a Guinness Pro Championship title and his first season left his future with Sale uncertain. He has since settled into the team and was in top form before suffering a knee injury in early January. He is expected to return before the end of the current season.

On Monday the Aviva Premiership recognized MacGinty as its all-time greatest goal kicker in terms of accuracy. He is also noted for his ability to attack the line and is considered among the best defending flyhalves in the Premiership. The 28-year-old led the Eagles to World Cup qualification last summer and has been first choice at No10 since making his test debut in July 2015.
