Five Compete for Youth Olympics Places

Five South American countries are to be competing for Youth Olympics places. Taking place this coming Friday and Saturday (March 02-03) will be the Sudamérica Rugby women’s qualifying event for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

Buenos Aires 2018 will be played from October 06-18. The global event will feature competitors from 206 Olympian recognized countries. Rugby Sevens is a part of the event with the oval-ball sport’s games taking place at CASI (La Boya) in the northern suburbs of the Argentine capital.

Qualification for both the Women’s and Men’s sections of Buenos Aires 2018 is taking place throughout the year. A total of six countries will compete in each gender, all of which come from different IOC defined continental regions.

From South America the Women’s representative is to be determined in São José dos Campos on Saturday. Involved are to be Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Paraguay. Players aged 14-18 are eligible to play in the Summer Youth Games.

The tournament will have added special meaning to all involved due to it taking place in the lead-up to Saturday’s Americas Rugby Championship (ARC) match between Brazil and the Argentina XV.
