Axel Müller scored a try for Oyonnax on Saturday. The club pulled off a shock way win over Clermont in a round 18 Top 14 match. Not only did Oyonnax defeat the reigning champions but they did so on the road at the Stade Marcel-Michelin, one of the hardest places in the world to win.
Playing wing Müller scored a first half try. He did so by getting past French international Noa Nakaitaci to score in the left corner. The try would be one of two of the match for Oyonnax who won 18-12.
Müller Joints Oyonnax this season. He did so from Toulon whom he joined following the 2016 Olympic Games. His move to France saw his chances of playing for Los Pumas ended before they had begun. Yet his move abroad came due, in no small part, to a lack of opportunities with Los Jaguares.
Until Argentina has a greater number of options for players more athletes will continue to leave to play abroad. The end result is that Los Pumas are left with a notably smaller player base to choose from than in the past.
The win over Clermont lifts Oyonnax up to 18 competition points. The club remains rooted to the bottom of the Top 14, seven points adrift of Brive. As it stands Oyonnax will be relegated to the Pro D2 next season. Avoiding relegation will require more wins like that over Clermont. Oyonnax have a great opportunity next up when the host the struggling Stade Français Paris on March 04.
