Pro D2 – Week 24 Preview

Week 24 of the Pro D2 season is upon us. The second division of French rugby has long been a competition featuring many players from the Americas. The following is a preview detailing those involved over the coming round of competition.

The opening match of week 24 sees Mont de Marsan at home against Biarritz. Carlos Muzzio starts for the home side at Loose Head while Jerónimo Negrotto is among the replacement front-rowers. Biarritz are coached by RWC 1999 and 2003 Puma Gonzalo Quesada.

Mont de Marsan vs Biarritz is the one-and-only Thursday fixture. Week 24 continues on Friday with five fixtures. In Basque country Bayonne host Carcassonne. The home side start the match with former Puma Martín Bustos Moyano at fullback. Chilean Pablo Huete has been named among the replacements.

Up in Vannes game time will be sought from USA prop Eric Fry. He has been named as a replacement against Nevers. Argentine Javier Lagioiosa joins him on the bench, covering second-row. Former Puma Horacio San Martín starts for Nevers in the mid-field.

In Central France Aurillac are at home to Dax. The visitors have RWC 2019 bound Felipe Berchesi starting the match. The Uruguayan play-maker will play fly half and is to be one of two South Americans representing Dax. The other is Martín Chiappessoni who starts at flanker.

A miracle is needed for Narbonne to avoid relegation. On Friday the former Top 14 side hosts the high-flying Grenoble. A return for Grenoble to the top flight is entirely plausible. Looking to help Narboone gain points is USA Eagles forward David Tameilau. He will feature from the bench.

There are to also be fixtures taking place on Saturday and Sunday. Montauban hosts Perpignan while Colomiers welcome Béziers. Line-ups for these fixtures are due out the day before the respective matches. A number of Americas countries may be represented.
