USA vs Argentina XV 2018 – Match Highlights

The USA Eagles opened 2018 in style. They began the Americas Rugby Championship (ARC) with a victory over the Argentina XV in Los Angeles. In doing so they became the first team to defeat the Argentina in the ARC.

Since the ARC began in 2016 the Argentina XV has gone undefeated. In both 2016 and 2017 they defeated Brazil, Canada, Chile and Uruguay. These same years they competed to draws against the USA. The results combined with others from the competition gave the Argentina XV the ARC title in 2016 and the USA the title in 2017.

With the USA winning their match to open their 2018 ARC season the Eagles have taken a monumental step towards defending their title. They have remaining matches against Brazil, Chile, Uruguay and Canada – their opponents this coming Saturday.

Based on the USA’s performance in Los Angeles and Canada’s in Vancouver and Montevideo the Eagles are well placed to win. Against the Argentina XV the USA controlled play for the vast duration of the match. They were better organized and executed their opportunities well.

The match loomed as repeating the draw outcome from previous years. Indeed the Argentina XV appeared to have scored on full-time. Referee Chris Assmus awarded a try to Rodrigo Bruni only for it to be called back via the TMO.
