Seawolves sign Rebels prop Tim Metcher

The Seattle Seawolves have beefed up their front row stocks once again with the signing of former Melbourne Rebels prop Tim Metcher for the 2018 Major League Rugby season. A member of Australia’s u20 side at the 2011 Junior World Championship, the 26-year-old tighthead specialist arrives in Seattle after an injury-plagued year that saw him ruled out of Super Rugby contention with a knee injury.

Metcher joined the Rebels in 2015 and made a half-dozen appearances as a replacement during his first two seasons. He was first choice tighthead for the Melbourne Rising in the 2016 NRC and was expected to play a larger role for the Rebels in 2017 before injury struck. He also had the unique distinction of playing against the British & Irish Lions on two occasions during their tour to Australia in 2013.

After returning from injury with club side South Districts in late July of last year he moved to Canada to take up a role as a player-coach with the Nanaimo Hornets of the CDI Premier League. Metcher is the latest addition to an imposing Seawolves front row group that already boasts senior internationals Ray Barkwill, Olive Kilifi, and Nick Wallace.
