Pat Kay and Matt Mullins will play no part for Canada at the Hamilton Sevens this weekend. The experienced duo have been ruled out with knee and back injuries respectively, joining already departed Lucas Hammond and Phil Berna on the sidelines.
There is better news on Luke McCloskey, who has been passed fit to play after taking blow to the head in Sydney while Mike Fuailefau, originally scheduled to depart, has been named in the squad despite his questionable status with an ankle injury.
[EDIT: Rugby Canada’s team announcement erroneously listed Pat Kay as unavailable for the tournament. He is in fact available to play with Mike Fuailefau sitting out.]
Joining the squad are three players. Josiah Morra, Luke Bradley, and Tevaughn Campbell will all be in the squad having recently participated in the Sudamérica Sevens series with the Maple Leafs development side. Canada will not name a 13th player for the tournament.
Morra and Bradley each have prior experience on the senior circuit. Campbell, a CFL player who will become a free agent on February 13, was named in Canada’s squad for the Asian leg last season but did not make a match appearance.
Canada finished in 13th at Sydney last weekend, ending the tournament with only seven fit players. They are currently in 10th place overall on the 2017-18 HSBC Sevens Series after three tournaments.
The Sydney Sevens can be watched live in Canada on the CBC Sports website or the CBC Sports app.
CANADA 7s (revised)
