Argentina Announce Spread of Venues for June Internationals

Argentina has announced a broad spread of venues for the June Internationals. The mid-year test matches involving Los Pumas are to be against Wales and Scotland. All three fixtures are to be played away from Buenos Aires.

Wales will be touring Argentina for the first time in 12 years. The previous visit was back in 2006 with Los Pumas winning the two match series 2-0 with matches played in Puerto Madryn and Buenos Aires.

Their two matches this year are to be take place on June 09 and  June 16. Both are to be Saturday fixtures, the first of which will take place at the Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario in San Juan. Game two will be played at the Estadio Brigadier López in Santa Fé.

Both matches are to see Wales making first-ever appearances in these cities. Wales first toured Argentina in 1999, playing two tests in Buenos Aires. They returned in 2004 to play in Tucumán and Buenos Aires with the following tour being that of 2016. Since then Wales have hosted Argentina on six occasions.

1994 saw Scotland touring for the first time. The two match series had both games played in Buenos Aires. Scotland returned in 2008 playing tests in Rosario and Buenos Aires. Then in 2010 the Scots returned, this time playing in Tucumán and Mar del Plata. The most recent test was in 2014 in Córdoba.

While San Juan, Santa Fé and Chaco are new to hosting their 2018 opposition both have been used regularly by the UAR. Argentina hosted Ireland in Santa Fé in 2007, Italy in 2016 and England in 2017. England also played in San Juan in 2017. Prior to that San Juan hosted other matches including Chile in 2007 and Georgia in 2013. Ireland played a test in Resistencia in 2014.
