Pro D2 – Week 21 Preview

Week 21 of the French Pro D2 is underway. The latest round of France’s second division sees no involvement of Uruguayan players. The reason for this is their involvement in the vital Rugby World Cup qualifier against Canada in Vancouver.

There are to be six Friday fixtures in Week 21. Kicking-off proceedings is to be Dax at home to Massy. The teams sit 13th and 14th making their match vital for points to stay clear of the relegation zone. Playing flanker for Dax is to be Argentine Martín Chiappesoni.

Bottom of the table Carcassonne host Charente. The visitors need points to catch the Top 5 while avoiding relegation is very much mandatory for the home side. Looking to get a home win will be Demian Panizzo. The Argentine will feature as a replacement second-row.

Talks of a Basque fusion returned to the forefront again this past weekend. Bayonne and Biarritz are not the financial entities of the professional era. Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Lyon, Montpellier, Racing 92 and Toulon all are. City rather than town teams.

A win for Bayonne on Friday may not be enough to alter the winds of change. Martín Bustos Moyano is back to start at fullback while Juan Pablo Orlandi will cover Tight Head from the bench. Featuring for the visitors from Vannes will be Javier Lagioiosa. He starts in the second-row.

Biarritz play away against Nevers. Rugby World Cup 1999 and 2003 Puma, Gonzalo Quesada has handed Leandro Mario Assi a start. Assi will play at Tight Head.

League leaders Montauban are at home against the 15th placed Narbonne. Looking to rise in the table will be Americas players Segundo Tuculet and David Tameilau. They start on the left wing and at no 8 respectively on Friday.

Friday’s final fixture sees Colomiers looking to continue their fine season. They play host to Aurillac, a match they are expected to win. Starting at hooker will be Agustín Costa Repetto.

Completing Week 21 will be Béziers at home against Mont de Marsan. Line-ups for this Sunday fixture are due to be announced on Saturday afternoon.
