Americas Sevens Series may begin in November

The next step in the continued evolution of rugby in the Americas has been revealed. Plans are underway for the new Americas Sevens Series to potentially begin in November 2018.

The Americas Sevens Series is to replace the Sudamérica Rugby Sevens explains Marcelo Rodríguez. Yet not only will it see the inclusion of both South America and North America it will also be a circuit.

The months of November, December and January have been selected for the circuit. The idea is to have the competition played over four legs two of which would be in North America and two in South America.

The competition would begin in North America. The two legs staged in North America would be played in November and December. The circuit would then move to South America in January. This could mean the potential continuation of the Punta del Este, Uruguay and Viña del Mar, Chile events.

Yet the exact locations of the Americas Sevens Series has not been confirmed. There has been interest shown from a range of countries. These include Chile, Uruguay and Peru in South America and Bermuda, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and the USA from North America.

The selection process for the hosting of the circuit is to begin in March. Not only are Chile and Uruguay well positioned but Chile intends on becoming a host of the World Sevens Series.

Unconfirmed is whether the Americas Sevens Series would include women’s rugby or not.
