MVCC to Show Canada vs Uruguay Live on Big Screen

The oldest rugby club in the Americas, Montevideo Cricket Club (MVCC) is to show Canada vs Uruguay live on a big screen on Saturday.

Canada hosts Uruguay in the first of two Rugby World Cup 2019 qualifiers on January 27. The return fixture is to take place seven days later at the Estadio Charrúa in Montevideo. The winner of the two match series, in aggregate, will become Americas 2 and play against Australia, Fiji, Georgia and Wales in Pool D of Japan 2019.

The occasion is immensely important for Uruguayan rugby. Winning the series would see Los Teros qualify for Rugby World Cup 2019 early. The team’s path to England 2015 was repechage. It required facing Asia 2 and subsequently Europe 3. This meant games against Hong Kong and subsequently Russia.

The two match series against Russia involved a trip to Siberia which, technically, is not Europe but North Asia. In seeking to seal their place in Japan 2019 Uruguay are out to avoid the long and complicated path that Los Teros experienced during the previous campaign.

Americas Rugby News recently spoke with Uruguayan no 8 Alejandro Nieto about the series vs Canada. The interview can be read by clicking here.

For those in and around Montevideo this coming Saturday do not miss the opportunity to see the match at MVCC. The club is selling tickets for the event at $200 Uruguayan pesos. This is a cost of roughly US$7.

The club is organizing not only a big screen to show the match live but also food and beverage. Paella and white wine is to be served.
