Round 5 of the European Challenge Cup takes place this weekend. Matches are to be played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. England, France, Scotland and Wales are all to host games involving players from the world over. Of those in action some are from the Americas. Below is a preview indicating those involved.
Caribbean flier Marland Yarde will feature for the Sale Sharks on Saturday. Having recently transferred from the Harlequins the English-capped player from St. Lucia will be looking to impress against Lyon as he eyes up further opportunities under Eddie Jones. Former England fullback Delon Armitage starts for Lyon. He is also Caribbean, a native of Trinidad & Tobago.
In the French Pyrenees there are to be two Americas’ players involved for Pau. Canadian Matt Tierney and Argentine Ignacio Callas are both to have opportunities from the bench. The pairing have been named as reserve front-rowers. Tierney is to turn-out for Canada this month.
Up in Oyonnax an all-French encounter sees Brive visiting. The two sides make up 66.6% of the clubs which realistically appear to be facing relegation from the Top 14 this season. Neither side is at full-strength as a result. Given an opportunity is Uruguay’s Manuel Leindekar. Like Mattt Tierney, he is confirmed as playing against Canada later this month in the Rugby World Cup qualifier in Vancouver.
On Sunday Blaine Scully is to feature for the Cardiff Blues against Toulouse. The USA Eagles captain has been named on the bench for the Wales vs France club match-up.
