Civetta handed three week suspension

US Eagles lock Nick Civetta has been handed a three week suspension by an RFU disciplinary panel after receiving a red card for an incident in the Doncaster Knights match against Yorkshire Carnegie last weekend. He is free to play again on January 29.

It’s bad news for Doncaster, where Civetta has been first choice while on loan from Aviva Premiership club Newcastle Falcons. For Eagles fans it’s less worrying with their Americas Rugby Championship campaign not due to begin until February 3. The 2.03m (6’8″) lineout specialist is one of five second rows named in the USA’s ARC squad.

Civetta was shown red after taking out Carnegie scrumhalf Will Homer in the 39th minute of their Greene King IPA Championship match. The head-to-head contact was ruled dangerous and reckless, leaving referee Trevor Fisher with no option but to send the American from the pitch.
