Te’o joins Matyas at San Diego Legion

Mike Te’o will play for the San Diego Legion in the inaugural Major League Rugby season. It will be a homecoming of sorts for the electric fullback, who starred for the San Diego Breakers in the 2016 PRO Rugby season. Originally from Long Beach, where he plays his club rugby for Belmont Shore, Te’o will join another for Breakers player in the side – Ryan Matyas. The outside back has already been confirmed as the franchise’s first official player at the recent unveiling of kit sponsor XBlades.

Also confirmed to be joining the team is former Saint Mary’s midfielder Dylan Audsley. The 23-year-old was born in England but has an American mother and moved state-side in high school before pursuing his collegiate career. He was a Junior All-American at the 2013 Junior World Championship, only missing out on repeat selection the following year due to injury. Audsley is set to make his Eagles debut in the Americas Rugby Championship alongside new teammates Matyas and Te’o.

The remainder of San Diego’s roster is yet to be revealed with former Eagles 7s player and coach Matt Hawkins the only publicly confirmed staff member. With the Legion the only California-based franchise at the league’s startup, it’s expected that several former PRO players will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
