Uruguay have confirmed their final list of 12 players to compete at the Punta del Este 7s this weekend. It’s the first of the two-leg Sudamérica Sevens series, the second coming next weekend at Viña del Mar.
The home side are aiming to qualify for the Rugby World Cup Sevens, to be held at San Francisco’s AT&T Park in July. To do so they will have to be one of the top two teams between other South American contenders Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Paraguay.
Two changes have been made to the squad that were victorious in the second tier of the Seven de la República in Paraná last month. Regular skipper Gabriel Puig returns in place of Manuel Castro among the forwards, and Teros XVs regular Gastón Gibernau bolsters options in place of Pedro Rega.
Others recently capped by the senior XVs side include loose forward Santiago Hernández, scrumhalf Guillermo Lijtenstein, and outside backs Francisco Berchesi and Ignacio García.
Uruguay will compete against the USA Falcons, France, and Brazil on Day One.
