Happy Holidays!

Americas Rugby News would like to wish all of our readers a happy holiday season!

Once again it’s been a busy year in the rugby world, rugby across the Americas continues to grow at a rapid rate and 2018 promises to be the biggest year yet. The Americas Rugby Championship is just around the corner, a new second tier version starts in August, the South American Championship has been upgraded, Scotland is coming to the Americas in June (and also Wales…), the Rugby World Cup Sevens is in San Francisco, and Rugby Americas North gives us plenty of exciting rugby from developing nations.

Perhaps most exciting in the coming year is the ‘introduction’ (take two?) of professional rugby in North American thanks to Major League Rugby, while there are also plans afoot for professional sides in Uruguay and Brazil. Who knows where either might take us but ARN will be here to write about it!

From our perspective, we’re on the edge of 4,000 Facebook followers (only about 30 short!) and 3,000 Twitter followers (about 100 short), and of course we have many more who visit the site on a daily basis. While it might not seem like much, we’ve come a long way since we quietly opened the doors in June 2015 and we’ve depended almost entirely on word-of-mouth to attract new followers.

In 2017 we added some new things to the site:

– Americas Rankings Page, a permanent page to see how the teams stack up

– Competitions Page, with results and rosters for various competitions

– Players Page, a current list of international player details for the top six Americas nations

– Best of the Rest, a semi-regular posting of articles from elsewhere

– Brazil and Chile each got their own front page tabs

…and over the next few days we’ll be rolling out our annual awards. What’s to come in 2018? We’ve got some ideas, but we’d also like to hear yours!
