Brazil names strong team for Sudamérica Sevens

Brazil has named a 12-man squad to take part in the upcoming Sudamérica Sevens Series. With two spots in the Rugby World Cup Sevens up for grabs, the team can’t take any chances with Chile, Uruguay, Colombia, and Paraguay also in the mix. The top two between the five South American nations following the tournaments in Punta del Este and Viña del Mar will qualify direct for San Francisco.

Where other squads have rely heavily on sevens specialists, Brazil’s entire roster are fully capped 15-a-side players with all expected to contend for spots in the Americas Rugby Championship following the conclusion of the two tournaments. In fact only Ariel Rodrigues and Roberto Tenório were not part of Tupis squad on their European Tour in November, though each featured in test matches earlier in 2017.

Only four players return from the squad that competed in the Rio Olympics, all four coming from the São Jose José. Moisés Duque, Stefano Giantorno, and the Sancery twins Daniel and Felipe will be asked to play senior roles. Other notables include forwards André Arruda and Matheus Daniel, while versatile Lucas Muller was unlucky to miss out on Olympic selection.
