Bizarre incident in Paris sees Imhoff red carded

A bizarre incident in the 64th minute of the Champions Cup match between Racing 92 and Castres Olympique on Saturday will see Juan Imhoff in front of a judiciary this week. The Argentine winger was sent off for a headbutt on Castres scrumhalf Rory Kockott, who was yellow carded at the same time.

The action started with Kockott hoisting replacement halfback Teddy Iribaren up in the air with the Racing player’s head pointed straight at the ground. Referee Wayne Barnes immediately blew his whistle for the dangerous act but Imhoff, in a moment of madness, took matters into his own hands and drove his forehead into the side of Kockott’s head.

Initially Imhoff’s act was not sighted by the officials and Kockott’s yellow card appeared to be the end of it, but the TMO spotted the incident and upon further review it was clear for all to see. While not officially cited yet, Imhoff is certain to face further disciplinary action and could well face several weeks on the sidelines to reflect on his behavior.
