On Thursday a series of posts on Major League Rugby’s social media channels teased the imminent reveal of the team kits for the inaugural 2018 season. Closeup shots of the Seattle Seawolves, Austin Elite, and San Diego Legion jerseys were posted followed by a group promotional shot that shows a clearer view of the set. Official team socks and shorts are left out for now.
Representing the seven teams in the photo are (L to R): Garrett Bender (Seattle Seawolves), Seth Halliman (Glendale Raptors), Osea Kolinisau (Houston SaberCats), Paul Lasike (Utah Warriors), Peter Malcolm (Austin Elite), Sebastián Kalm (New Orleans Gold), and Ryan Matyas (San Diego Legion).
Not all of uniforms are exclusive reveals. Glendale’s jerseys, home and away, are already available for purchase online while there have been numerous pictures of Houston’s change strip in action during recent exhibition matches. Utah’s original kit design has been visible on the front page of their website since launch though it appears that will now be an alternate strip if not discarded completely.
Also of note is the presence of the X-Blades logo on each kit, almost certainly an indication that the rugby apparel company has signed on as a sponsor. The logo appears to have been ‘erased’ in the side-on release but is clearly visible in the centered shot.
