Challenge Cup – Round 3 Preview

The Challenge Cup got the European weekend kick-started last evening as Toulouse defeated Lyon, but there were no Americas players involved and only one set to partake on Friday. Another nine will be suited up on Saturday with the four World Cup nations all represented.

Friday evening’s game at Agen will see Matt Tierney on the bench for visitors Pau. The 21-year-old Canadian prop has yet to feature for the senior side this season after playing in six matches last year including four in European competition.

A trio of Argentines will be at the Stadio Lanfranchi on Saturday where Zebre host Gloucester. Eduardo Bello will cover prop and Serafin Bordoli flyhalf for the home team. Meanwhile second row Mariano Galarza runs out for Cherry and Whites, his first game of the season after recovering from injury.

It’s a good showing for US Eagles with four of their internationals on display split across two games. AJ MacGinty gets the nod at flyhalf for Sale Sharks against Cardiff Blues, who will count Blaine Scully among the reserves.

At Sixways there are two Eagles in Worcester’s starting pack. Joe Taufete’e packs down at hooker and Andrew Durutalo is on the openside flank. They will play Oyonnax who have Argentinean winger Axel Müller on the run-on side and Uruguayan lock Manuel Leindekar on the bench.
