British & Irish Cup – Round 3 Preview

While the big clubs are heading into a big weekend of European Challenge and Champions Cup action, the Greene King IPA Championship clubs will spend the next couple weeks taking on reserve sides from the Welsh and Irish Guinness Pro 14 clubs in the British & Irish Cup.

Two games will get things started on Friday evening but the Americas involvement doesn’t begin until Saturday. US Eagles lock Nick Civetta returns to Doncaster Knights on loan from Newcastle to start against Cardiff Premiership Select at Castle Park.

Argentine flanker Adam Lee will see his first senior side action of the year for Richmond as they host Connacht Eagles at the Athletic Ground. Former Eagles center Ronnie McLean has been given the weekend off.

A pair of Canadian forwards will be reserves for their respective clubs on Saturday. Kyle Baillie will cover the second for for London Scottish on the road trip to Jersey, and Djustice Sears-Duru will be a second half impact sub for Ealing against Rotherham.

Sunday will be an even more significant day for Canadian fans as Matt Evans returns to the Cornish Pirates for the first time in a year after recovering from a serious knee injury. He has received an immediate call-up after coming through a warm-up match with Redruth last weekend unscathed.

Evans starts on the right wing with Argentine sevens international Nicolás Coronel on the left. Canadian lock Brett Beukeboom makes his third start of the season as the Pirates take the long drive over the Severn Bridge to play Scarlets Select at Carmarthen Park.
