Argentina’s Italian Prospect Brex Scores First Pro 14 Try

Juan Ignacio Brex scored his first Guinness Pro 14 try, doing so against Leinster this weekend. The Argentine center scored under the posts, finishing off a series of raids from the home side.

The try was his second overall for Benetton Treviso. His first came against Toulon in the European Champions Cup earlier this season. He joined the Guinness Pro 14 side this season from Viadana in the domestic Italian league, the Eccellenza.

The 24-year-old has represented Argentina at u20, Sevens, and senior ‘A’ level but has yet to win a cap for the Pumas. He could yet be capped by Italy. Doing so will require him to go through the Olympic loophole.

Born and raised in Argentina, Brex moved to Italy two years ago. He has an Italian-born father which means he need not complete a residency period to qualify for Italy. He also has Italian citizenship and a passport due to his father. An appearance for Italy in an Olympic Games qualifier would be sufficient for him to become eligible for Italy.
