Pro D2 – Round 14 Preview

Round 14 of the Pro D2 season is underway. Taking to the field are to be a range of Americas players. The competition is France’s second division and is the highest level of all such competitions in the world.

The round started this evening with Biarritz hosting Perpignan in a match which, 10 years ago, was a Top 14 classic. Gonzalo Quesada’s side ran-out 37-11 winners. They did so with Leandro Mario Assi involved from the bench.

In the first of six Friday fixtures Narbonne play host to Vannes. Starting for the home side on the left wing will be Segundo Tuculet. His older brother won the 2017 World Rugby Try of the Year Award this past weekend. Also playing will be David Tameilau who will feature from the bench.

A south-western France classic sees Dax at home against Mont de Marsan. Starting at fly half for the home side will be Felipe Berchesi. Many see him as pivotal for the upcoming Rugby World Cup qualifying series between Uruguay and Canada. Argentine flanker Martín Chiappessoni will feature as a replacement for Dax while Jerónimo Negrotto is to do so for the visitors.

Veteran Argentine hooker Agustín Costa Repetto starts again for Colomiers on Friday. He is to do so in a home match against Berchesi’s former home, Carcassonne.

Both starting Tight Head props in Charante’s match against Montauban are to be Argentine. Joel Sclavi gets another start for Charente while Victor Damian Arias will anchor the scrum for the visitors.

Round 14 of the Pro D2 will conclude on Sunday. The final fixture will see Nevers playing at home against Bayonne. Both clubs are expected to field players from the Americas. Line-ups for the match will be named on Saturday afternoon local time.
