Jamaica Qualify for 2018 Sevens World Cup

Jamaica have been crowned the 2017 Men’s Rugby Americas North Sevens champions. Their impressive campaign saw them build on finishing top of their pool on day one to win the tournament played in Mexico City. In running-out winners Jamaica have officially qualified for the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco.

Jamaica secured qualification for the Rugby Sevens World Cup in dramatic fashion. It took a last minute try in the final against Guyana to book the spot. In addition to playing in San Francisco 2018, Jamaica also qualified for the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO) Games, Commonwealth Games and the 2018 Hong Kong Sevens.

Jamaica were pooled with the Dominican Republic and Bermuda. They topped their pool while Mexico and Guyana were the other pool winners.

Mexico started by hammering Curaçao 61-0. Impressive results continued to come in before they fell 26-12 against Jamaica at the Semi Finals stage. This set up Jamaica vs Guyana in the Gold Final while Mexico took-on Trinidad & Tobago in the Bronze Final.

In the Bronze Final Mexico came out on top with a 22-14 victory. The battle for 5th place resulted in the Cayman Islands downing Bermuda 21-14.
