Riekert Hattingh signs for Seawolves

Former Ohio Aviators star Riekert Hattingh has signed with the Seattle Seawolves for the 2018 Major League Rugby season. The 23-year-old No 8 joined the Aviators halfway through the 2016 PRO Rugby campaign and proved a revelation with his athleticism and attacking skills.

A native of Pretoria, South Africa, Hattingh represented the Blue Bulls at age-grade level before heading to the USA in 2015 to play for the Austin Blacks. He returned to South Africa briefly and made an appearance for the senior Blue Bulls side in a Currie Cup pre-season match in 2016, shortly thereafter making a permanent move to Columbus. Following his PRO Rugby stint he joined Tiger Rugby Academy, where he has been a coach since.

Hattingh joins fellow PRO standouts Ray Barkwill, Olive Kilifi, and Jérémy Lenaerts on the Seawolves roster. Other notables previously announced include Canada scrumhalf Phil Mack, dual Eagles international Shalom Suniula, and former England Sevens star Mat Turner.
