Fresh faces in Brazil roster for November tour

Stefano Ambrosio has included five uncapped players in his 28-man travel roster for Brazil. The average age of the squad is just 24 with only flyhalf Josh Reeves over the age of 30. Os Tupis will play Germany, Belgium, and Spain on successive weekends starting on Saturday in Leipzig.

The strong form of Farrapos in the Super 8 competition has seen two of their loose forwards called up in Argentine flanker Angelo Marcucci and rangy No 8 Mauricio Canterle. Missing out as a result of their inclusion are veterans João Luiz da Ros and Nick Smith.

They aren’t the only big names left out as Jonatas Paulo gives way to 20-year-old São José loosehead prop Michel Gomes. There is also no place for Lucas Duque, with two new players in Douglas Rauth and England-born Will Broderick to compete with Matheus Cruz for the scrumhalf position.

Another 20-year-old prop, tighthead Matheus Rocha, continues his climb after earning his first test start in the superb comeback win over Portugal earlier this year. Highly rated Jacarei goal kicker Leonardo Ceccarelli will play understudy to his clubmate Reeves at flyhalf. Ceccarelli made his run-on debut as an 18-year-old against Kenya last June.
