Patricio Fernández was named Man of the Match for Clermont earlier today. The Argentine fly half received the accolade despite having played in a losing effort. Montpellier won the match 28-24.
Fernández stared for Clermont, scoring 14 points. His efforts included scoring the game’s opening try, landing three conversions and also slotting a penalty. He played the match in his preferred position of fly half, doing so opposite Rugby World Cup 2011 winner, Aaron Cruden.
The Rosario play-maker was playing in his return appearance. He had been sidelined with a foot injury. This saw him missing Clermont’s opening two matches of the European Champions Cup.
Under existing Argentine policieis Fernández is not eligible to play for Los Pumas. Should this change then in all likelihood Fernández would immediately be added to the roster. Problems in 2017 have seen Los Pumas without options in the position.
