The Canadian influence grows at the Seattle Seawolves as the side confirmed the signing of Canadian international Brock Staller on Friday. A utility back who is comfortable at center, wing, or fullback, Staller is also a proven goal kicker with the UBC Thunderbirds in the CDI Premier League and BC Bears in the Canadian Rugby Championship. He moves to Seattle for the inaugural Major League Rugby season from the Meralomas club in Vancouver who he joined just a few weeks ago.
Staller made his test debut during the 2016 Americas Rugby Championship after impressing at club and provincial level. He won his first cap as a centre against Brazil and has since made seven test appearances for Canada, six of them starts. The 25-year-old was also part of the 2017 ARC squad and will play on the wing against the New Zealand Māori at BC Place this evening.
The signing now makes it four Canadian players on the Seawolves roster, following player-coach Phil Mack, hooker Ray Barkwill, and center George Barton. Former Canada lock Tony Healy has been appointed Head Coach and Thunderbirds coach Curry Hitchborn is part of the team management. Major League Rugby will begin regular season play in April of 2018.
