Ramiro Herrera Leaves Pumas

28-year-old Ramiro Herrera leaves Los Pumas. The Tight Head prop is not involved in the training camp for the upcoming November Internationals. Argentina is to play in Europe against England, Italy and Ireland.

The veteran of 37 test matches for Argentina, Herrera’s Pumas career is now on hold. The Patagonian Tight head prop is moving to France next month to join Stade Français. His contract with the club means he is no longer eligible for international duty.

Herrera was the rock of the scrum which saw Argentina defeat Ireland at Rugby World Cup 2015. That victory saw Los Pumas qualifying for the Semi Finals. Since then the scrum has not been the same with 2017 demonstrating a significantly underprepared formation.

In looking to correct the scrum woes Herrera is a player that Argentina need more than ever. Instead his non-availability is to see Enrique Pieretto and Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro entering November as the two leading contenders for the starting position. Both players are in the squad as is Felipe Arregui. The former Edinburgh player, Arregui is uncapped.

Also in with an opportunity is Benjamín Espinal. The uncapped 26-year-old has prior experience playing in France. Curiously he played for Stade Français. Espinal joined the team today in Buenos Aires.
