The Seattle Seawolves have added some brute force to their roster in the form of US Air Force Captain Eric Duechle. An imposing physical specimen, the former Belmont Shore loose forward earned international recognition with the USA Select XV in the 2012 Americas Rugby Championship. He subsequently spent time at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista though was not ultimately selected for the HSBC Sevens Series or the 2016 Olympic Games.
Though he has been left in the international wilderness for the past four years, at 31 years old Duechle remains in his athletic prime. He was part of the World Class Athlete Program from 2013-2016 while stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada. Duechle will now join the Seawolves for the inaugural season of Major League Rugby in a bid to return to Eagles contention.
Duechle is the fifth player confirmed by the Seawolves for the upcoming season, due to kick off in April 2018. Canadian internationals Ray Barkwill and Phil Mack, USA Eagles prop Olive Kilifi, and former England 7s star Mat Turner have also signed on the dotted line.
